In May 2010, in association with my other project, Sedition Industries, myself and B decided to apply to take over the Dublin Branch of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School.
Art has always been my first love, and I adored Life Drawing in college, so the Dr. Sketchy concept had always appealed to me. The idea to take life drawing out of the classroom and make it simultaneously more accessible and more comfortable was one I definitely wanted to get on board with. After submitting the application, going through the vetting process and being accepted to take on the branch, I was very excited to get started.
When we started promoting Sketchy’s, I had NO idea who would arrive in the doors the last Saturday in May. We had already built up contacts and followers through Sedition, however I was pleasantly surprised when we caught the attention of some seriously talent artists and illustrators who came across us through other sources.
Dr. Sketchy’s is one of my most favourite things to do these days. Once I would have sworn blind that I would never be capable of standing in front of an audience and presenting something like Sketchy’s. However it’s been a real eye-opening experience for me and for the girls who have modelled. We have all become more confident and comfortable in our roles. It does help a lot when we are seeing familiar faces among the crowd week after week.
As a result of Sketchy’s, I also did my first ever radio interview and there are LOTS of potential projects simmering away for the coming months.
